Service Technician II

Department: Facilities Management
Location: Washington, DC

SOME (So Others Might Eat) provides material aid and comfort to our vulnerable neighbors in the District of Columbia, helping them to break the cycle of poverty and homelessness through programs and services that save lives, improve lives, and help to transform the lives of individuals and families, their communities, and the systems and structures that affect them. We meet immediate needs with food, clothing, and healthcare and offer the tools one needs to live with hope, dignity, and greater independence.

Compensation:
We offer our employees a competitive compensation and benefits package that reflects our organizational culture, mission, and core values. The hourly range for this position is $23.54 to $24.89 and is commensurate with experience.

The Service Technician II performs preventative, corrective, and emergency maintenance at SOME owned facilities across Washington, DC.

Required: Some High School, at least six months of building maintenance or service technician experience

Required License/Certification: Must possess and maintain a vehicle and valid driver's license, as well as personal car liability insurance coverage. This is a contingency of employment. The vehicle should be safe and reliable. (mileage will be reimbursed)

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm (40 hours per week)

Expected Contributions:

  • Perform routine preventative maintenance and basic repairs to building systems and equipment; assist Service Technicians to ensure that building systems are being operated safely, efficiently, and as intended
  • Inspects assigned facilities for compliance with safety standards; reports finding to supervisor, and performs repairs as necessary to ensure compliance
  • Completes and documents all service and maintenance request in a timely manner per policy/standard
  • Communicate work status updates to Facilities Management and Property Management
  • Answer mobile phone in off hours and respond to 24-hour emergency calls as part of the on-call rotation list
  • Assists with snow removal and after hours emergency response

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge and basic to intermediate level experience in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC
  • Ability to use common power tools, hand tools, and maintenance equipment
  • Basic computer skills to complete invoicing, respond to emails and complete work order documentation
  • Ability to troubleshoot and understand plumbing issues, preventative maintenance, and general maintenance & repair
  • Professional communication skills to communicate verbally
  • Time management skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks
  • Customer service skills

Reports To: Facilities Manager

Position Designation: This position is designated as Safety Sensitive. You may be subject to drug testing prior to or during your employment with SOME. In this position, you may be disqualified from employment based on the presence of marijuana in test results, even if you possess a medical card authorizing the use of medical marijuana.

Physical Demands: Must be able to stand, stoop, bend, stretch, walk, climb, sit, type on a keyboard, and lift up to 50 pounds with assistance of dolly, or staff. Must be able to climb step ladders 14 feet in height. Must be able to climb extension ladder and scaffolds up to 50 feet in height. All duties performed with door without reasonable accommodations.
