SOME (So Others Might Eat) exists to help homeless and poor individuals and families in Washington, DC. Our more than 30 programs throughout the district provide comprehensive services that lead to improved mental and physical health, continued sobriety, job training, living-wage employment, and access to affordable housing. We meet immediate needs with food, clothing, and healthcare, and offer the tools one needs to live with hope, dignity, and greater independence.

SOME (So Others Might Eat) is seeking a full-time In-Kind Services Manager to support our Community Resources department.

Compensation: We offer our employees a competitive compensation and benefits package that reflects our organizational culture, mission, and core values. The salary range for this position is $59,092.80 to $62,487.36 and may be commensurate with experience.

Position Description: The In-Kind Services Manager is responsible for overseeing all operations related to non-monetary donations, mail services, and in-kind contributions across the organization. This role ensures that donations are effectively managed, distributed, and aligned with program needs.

Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:30 am - 4:00 pm (40 hours per week)

Required: High school Diploma, 2-4 years of social service experience, and experience with Microsoft Excel for managing data and information

Preferred: Bachelor's Degree; 4-6 years of social service experience, experience working with inventory and inventory management, and experience with underserved populations

Expected Contributions: Program Operations

  • Oversee daily operations of functional areas, including mail services, clothing room, food warehouse, and donation drop-off/distribution.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including programs, individual donors, and community partners.
  • Oversee and track all donor activities and in-kind donations (e.g., Dignity Kits, clothing, food, and other goods).
  • Collaborate with the Senior Director and SVP to establish strategic direction and implement departmental strategies that align with SOME’s five-year strategic plan.
  • Develop and implement operational systems to reduce costs and maximize efficiencies in managing in-kind donations.
  • Ensure program warehouses and collection points are well-organized, with accurate tracking and inventory systems in place.
  • Ensure compliance with all internal policies and external regulations governing departmental and program functions.
  • Partner with programs to develop efficient systems for identifying needs and securing donated items.
  • Ensure all programs within scope maintain low-barrier and no-barrier access to services, regularly engaging with guests to identify and address potential barriers.
  • Maintain a strong customer service focus, ensuring all services are delivered with dignity, respect, and responsiveness to guests and program needs.
