Maintenance Technician Locksmith

Department: Facilities Management
Location: Washington, DC, DC

Calling all watchmakers and locksmiths! SOME (So Others Might Eat) is seeking a lock and key master to join our facilities team. The Service Tech Locksmith will have the opportunity to work on 1,000+ locks and perform general maintenance tasks. This is a full time position with a complete benefits package to include 401K, vacation, and paid federal holiday's.

Position Description: The Locksmith will be responsible for maintaining a log of all electronic and manual keying systems as well as mitigate the risk of security breaches. Sole key holder for all of SOME’s properties and administrative offices. Also responsible for implementation of the electronic key system for all programs including the Conway Center.  Manages access control, performs programming, distribution, troubleshooting and repairs for keys and locks. Performs daily maintenance and repair activities, mechanical, plumbing, and light carpentry. 

Qualifications: 

Required: High School Diploma or GED; 3+years’ experience as Locksmith with key-less entry and general maintenance experience. Driver's License.    

Preferred:  Certified Registered Locksmith (CRL) by Associated Locksmiths of America;  a Bachelor's degree or 5+ years of experience.  

  • Knowledge of controlling access points to doors, turnstiles, parking gates, elevators, or other physical barrier, where granting access can be electronically controlled.
  • Ability to use power tools, hand tools, and maintenance equipment in maintenance of buildings.
  • Knowledge of safety standards and laws related to security operations and facilities maintenance.
  • Mechanical knowledge of machines, locks, and tools; understanding its usage, design, repair, and maintenance.
  • Ability to interpret Master Keying Guide.
  • Skilled in maintaining building security, lock systems and following procedures and protocol.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite with intermediate computer skills; ability to  use inventory management software. 


Expected Contributions 

  • Creates and maintains SOME's lock and key system, including schematics, codes, and product standards 
  • Maintains a computer-based key management system 
  • Makes repairs to electronic/electrical and mechanical lock system hardware. 
  • Perform routine locksmith and general building maintenance on equipment and determine when and what kind of maintenance is needed.  
  • Issues keys with proper signed authorization key forms and maintains records.
  • Restores physical security in a timely manager 
  • Available for on call rotation for after hours service request 
  • Assist in set up key record system for other departments upon request 
  • Performs other building service maintenance and preventive maintenance as required 
  • Coordinate and monitor contractor work at assigned buildings
