Dentist (Part-Time, 24 hours/week)

SOME (So Others Might Eat) provides material aid and comfort to our vulnerable neighbors in the District of Columbia, helping them to break the cycle of poverty and homelessness through programs and services that save lives, improve lives, and help to transform the lives of individuals and families, their communities, and the systems and structures that affect them. We meet immediate needs with food, clothing, and healthcare and offer the tools one needs to live with hope, dignity, and greater independence.

Compensation:
We offer our employees a competitive compensation and benefits package that reflects our organizational culture, mission, and core values. The salary range for this position is $69,089.28 - $73,064.16 and is commensurate with experience.

The Dentist provides high-quality outpatient dental care to patients at the SOME Dental Clinic. This role is responsible for diagnosing oral conditions, delivering a full range of dental treatments, and offering patient education and counseling to support continued oral health and preventive care.

Location: This position is located at 60 O Street, NW – Washington, DC 20001.

Schedule: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm (24 hours per week)

Required: Doctorate of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctorate of Dental Medicine (DMD) Degree; 3-5 yrs experience in dental care; experience treating patients with substance abuse, mental illness, and Sexually Transmitted Diseases including HIV/AIDS; supervisory experience

Required License/Certification: Basic Life Support [CPR & AED] Provider, Infection Control, License to practice by District of Columbia Department of Health

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • In-depth knowledge of dental care diagnostics, treatment, and standards of care

Expected Contributions: Dental Clinic Care

  • Provide outpatient dental services to clients, which may include assessment, diagnosis, and treatment
  • Remove decay from teeth and fill cavities
  • Repair cracked or fractured teeth and remove teeth
  • Make referrals to specialists or emergency care, as needed
  • Educate patients about diet, flossing, use of fluoride, and other aspects of dental care
  • Examine x-rays of teeth, gums, the jaw, and nearby areas for problems
  • Make models and measurements for dental appliances, such as dentures, to fit patients
  • Document dental patient notes and results in electronic health record
  • Review compliance to dental procedures
  • Provide guidance for dental assistants and dental residents
  • Audit dental charts for CQI
  • Perform duties to maintain dental operations, such as inventory maintenance or dental lab communications
  • Collaborate with Behavioral Health and Medical Health to provide comprehensive patient care

Reports to: Director of Dentistry

Position Designation: This position is designated as Safety Sensitive. You may be subject to drug testing prior to or during your employment with SOME. In this position, you may be disqualified from employment based on the presence of marijuana in test results, even if you possess a medical card authorizing the use of medical marijuana.

Physical Demands: Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds. Requires looking at a computer screen for several hours a day. May be required to sit or stand for long periods.
