Manager, Development Operations

SOME (So Others Might Eat) provides material aid and comfort to our vulnerable neighbors in the District of Columbia, helping them to break the cycle of poverty and homelessness through programs and services that save lives, improve lives, and help to transform the lives of individuals and families, their communities, and the systems and structures that affect them. We meet immediate needs with food, clothing, and healthcare and offer the tools one needs to live with hope, dignity, and greater independence.

We are seeking a Manager, Development Operations to support our development department.

The Manager, Development Operations is directly responsible for the functional operations of the development team, including management of vendor and nonmonetary donor relationships, budget oversight and reporting, fund collection, and general administrative support as needed.

As the Manager, Development Operations, you will be responsible for executing essential development operations including gift acknowledgment, data analysis & reporting, and donor engagement activities. In your role, you will manage the implementation of annual fundraising events such as event gala, silent auction, and Thanksgiving Day Trot for Hunger along with bespoke donor/partner events. This position will report to the VP of Development Operations & Services.

Required: Bachelor's degree in business management or Operations OR 6+ years of relevant work experience in lieu of a degree; 3 years experience working in non-profit development or a similar field.

Preferred: 6+ years' experience working in management/supervisory positions in the Development field

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm (40 hours per week); two in-office days and then (3) remote days

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Knowledge and experience with fundraising software such as Every Action
  • Experience using Salesforce or a similar platform.
  • Motivated and self-started with the ability to work independently and as a team player, and to manage and prioritize tasks/projects at a time.
  • Demonstrated management skills.
  • Demonstrated budget and finance skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Strong computer skills

Environmental Working Conditions: This position is in an office setting. This office may or may not include individual heating and air conditioning controls. This office may or may not include a
window.
Expected Contributions: Gift Acknowledgments & Engagement Management

  • Develop and maintain standardized templates for gift acknowledgments, ensuring templates are tailored to different types of gifts and donor preferences.
  • Ensure acknowledgments are sent promptly after receiving donations.
  • Implement processes to streamline acknowledgment sending while maintaining personalization.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for sponsors, donors, and volunteers, maintaining regular communication and fostering positive relationships.
  • Maintain accurate records of event attendance, volunteer participation, donor interactions, and other relevant data in the organization's database.
