Public Safety Officer - Team Lead

SOME (So Others Might Eat) exists to help the homeless and poor of Washington, DC. With over 30 programs throughout the District of Columbia, we provide a wide spectrum of services to the most vulnerable individuals and families in our city. We strive to provide successful paths toward mental and physical health, continued sobriety, job training and employment with a living wage, affordable housing, and ultimately living independently and confidently.

SOME (So Others Might Eat) is looking for a Public Safety Officer Team Lead (Unarmed) with a great attitude and a high level of commitment to keep our clients, staff, and community safe.

Position Description: Lead public safety officers and give assistance with operational support for SOME Inc. programs and facilities. Monitor CCTV and report findings

Schedule: Tuesday-Saturday, 11am-7:30pm (40 hours per week)

Required: HS Diploma or GED; 3-5 yrs. Public Safety experience; experience providing services to the homeless and/or underserved population.

Preferred: Bachelor's Degree; 3-5 yrs. Public Safety and supervisory experience; experience providing services to the homeless and/or underserved population.

Required License/Certification: CPR/First Aid; Must possess and maintain a vehicle and valid Driver's License (Mileage will be reimbursed)

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Expected Contributions: Public Safety Management/Supervisory

  • Ensure appropriate department staffing levels in order to meet objectives; Assess, evaluate, and hire new employees as needed
  • Ensure SOME Inc. facilities are safe and clients receive services in a secure environment. Provide security detail inside/outside of the locations.
  • Provide conflict mitigation and de-escalate conflict between clients, guest, residents and/or staff with the use of CPI\Handle With Care training.
  • Develop and file incident reports SIR for medical, police issues and special circumstances
  • Issue barring notices as needed
  • Contact police when conflict escalates or violent behavior is exhibited by client, guest or residents
  • Develop positive working relationships with the local police and other law enforcement
  • Enforce rules consistently for all clients, guests and residents
  • Monitor security cameras, prepare footage and download for investigation
  • Complete and file incident reports/ SIR for medical, police, issues, and special circumstances
  • Print off pictures from CCTV for barring list and keep information accurate and up to date

Environmental Working Conditions: This position functions primarily on the O Street Campus with exposure to heat, cold, steam, and fumes. Work will be performed both indoors and outdoors on SOME facility grounds.

Physical Demands: Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds, bend, kneel, and squat, and may be required to stand for long periods.
