Community Outreach Internship - Summer/Fall 2024

SOME (So Others Might Eat) exists to help the homeless and poor of Washington, DC. With over 30 programs throughout the District of Columbia, we provide a wide spectrum of services to the most vulnerable individuals and families in our city. We strive to provide successful paths toward mental and physical health, continued sobriety, job training and employment with a living wage, affordable housing, and ultimately living independently and confidently.

Seeking a Summer & Fall 2024 Intern in Washington, DC. The Summer internship is June 1st - August 1st, 2024, and the Fall internship is August 2024 - December 2024. Must be able to complete the entire summer semester.

Opportunity for on-the-job training in non-profit Community Outreach. Commitment is 20-30 hours per week including some evening & weekend events.

Interns will receive a $500 monthly stipend.

Internship Overview: The Intern will support SOME's community outreach efforts across 4 pillars:

  • Faith based outreach
  • Academic social justice reform outreach
  • Community partnerships
  • Civic and government outreach

The Intern will have a significant opportunity to lead and create their own events-based initiatives as they relate to their personal and professional development goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Supporting Community Outreach and speaking engagements
  • Lead and sustain high school educational/service projects initiative with our core schools
  • Developing new strategies and initiatives, in conjunction with supervisor to bring awareness to the services SOME provides.
  • Work with supervisor on relaunching SOMEfest community outreach festival to incorporate target 60+ community service agencies and highlight the debut of the Father John Community Service Center
  • Learning best practices for communicating with Faith based institutions and community organizations that may be come donors, vendors, interns or possible clients

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience with public speaking; comfortable speaking and presenting to diverse groups
  • Able to work with staff at various levels of the organization and, potentially, with outside donors and vendors
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Organizational skills with an attention to detail
  • Proficient with MS Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
