SOME (So Others Might Eat) provides material aid and comfort to our vulnerable neighbors in the District of Columbia, helping them to break the cycle of poverty and homelessness through programs and services that save lives, improve lives, and help to transform the lives of individuals and families, their communities, and the systems and structures that affect them. We meet immediate needs with food, clothing, and healthcare and offer the tools one needs to live with hope, dignity, and greater independence.

*****THIS ROLE IS A 1099 INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR POSITION*****

SOME (So Others Might Eat) is actively seeking a part-time Job Development Contractor to provide assistance to our Center for Employment Training program located at 4430 Benning Road, NE in Washington, DC 20019.

Position Description: The Job Development Contractor plays a pivotal role in sourcing and creating employment opportunities for potential candidates in the healthcare and building trades industries. This position involves researching available job openings, establishing connections with local companies in the healthcare and building trades sectors, and identifying employment fairs and networking events to facilitate job placements.

Job Research:

Conduct comprehensive research to identify employment prospects within the healthcare and building trades sectors. Utilize various resources such as online job boards, company websites, industry publications, and professional networks to gather information on available positions, job prerequisites, and recruitment procedures.

Company Engagement:

Identify and establish connections with local companies specializing in healthcare services, construction, contracting, and other building trades. Build relationships with key personnel, including hiring managers, human resources professionals, and business owners, to grasp their staffing requirements and preferences. Present well-suited candidates and facilitate introductions to potential employers to foster job placements.

Networking:

Participate in industry-specific events, networking gatherings, and job fairs to broaden professional contacts and gain insights into job opportunities. Interact with representatives from healthcare facilities, construction firms, trade associations, and community groups to explore collaborative ventures and job prospects.

Candidate Assistance:

Collaborate closely with job seekers to evaluate their skills, aspirations, and career objectives. Offer guidance on crafting resumes, preparing for interviews, and devising job search tactics tailored to the healthcare and building trades sectors. Provide continuous support and motivation to candidates throughout their job search journey, including post-interview follow-up and assistance post-placement.

Employment Fair Engagement:

Identify forthcoming job fairs, career expos, and industry-specific events spotlighting opportunities in healthcare and building trades. Organize participation in these events, manage booth setup, promotional materials, and outreach to potential candidates. Facilitate connections between job seekers and hiring firms to optimize networking and job placement prospects.

Schedule (Time Commitment): 8 – 30 hours weekly

Reports to: Manager, Student Success
