Wellness Manager

SOME (So Others Might Eat) exists to help homeless and poor individuals and families of Washington, DC. Our more than 30 programs throughout the District provide comprehensive services that lead to mental and physical health, continued sobriety, job training, living-wage employment, and affordable housing. We meet immediate needs with food, clothing, and healthcare and offer the tools one needs to live with hope, dignity, and greater independence.

SOME (So Others Might Eat) is currently seeking a full-time Wellness Manager for our Senior Services department.

Position Description: The Wellness Manager oversees development, planning, and coordination of evidenced based health and wellness activities and programming for all clients of SOME Senior Services. Oversees all program volunteer needs and volunteer programming. When appropriate, facilitates health and wellness activities. Oversees submission of weekly, monthly, and annual reports as required for programmatic funding and evaluation. Monitors annual spending of program budget. Oversees and coordinates Congregate meal site.

Covid-19 Considerations: SOME (So Others Might Eat) currently has a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy. We require all employees to be fully vaccinated with a COVID-19 vaccination and boosters, except where a reasonable medical or religious accommodation can be granted upon review by human resources. Qualifications:

Required: High School Diploma or Associates Degree; 5-6 yrs. social services or wellness programming experience; experience developing and implementing evidence-based services to senior populations; previous experience implementing health, wellness, and recreational activities to seniors and/or specialized populations; experience promoting health literacy and establishing partnerships with community organizations. Familiar with client intake, assessment, and referral processes. Applicable certifications issued by the District of Columbia Department of Health.

Preferred: Bachelors or Masters Degree; 2-4 yrs. social service or wellness programming experience; demonstrated experience developing and implementing evidence-based health, wellness, and recreational activities to seniors and/or specialized populations; 2 + yrs. previous project management experience; experience promoting health literacy, establishing and sustaining community partnerships, and coordinating monthly events. Skilled at client intake, assessment, and referral. Applicable certifications issued by the District of Columbia Department of Health. Driver's License.

Required License/Certification: CPR/First-Aid

Schedule: Monday - Friday; 8:30am - 5:00pm

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate with diverse audiences and develop formal community partnerships
  • Ability to provide minimal case management and referral to community and/or SOME resources
  • Excellent written, oral, presentation and communication skills
  • Proficient with MS Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook

Expected Contributions:

  • Oversee all Senior Center operations including development, planning, and coordination of evidenced based health and wellness activities, and programming for all clients of SOME Senior Services
  • Promote programs and independently establish formal partnerships with community organizations
  • Track attendance and program statistics for grant reporting, and contribute to grant application submissions
  • Manage and delegate appropriate tasks to the program support specialist
  • Manage meal distribution and coordination with DACL chosen caterers
  • Maintain daily oversight and functionality of SOME's Senior Center and Senior Services' wellness activities
  • Coordinate and organize ongoing volunteer program and new volunteer initiatives
  • Oversee coordination the monthly collection and distribution of groceries to client homes
  • Oversee efficient use of Senior Services emergency food pantry
  • Organize and collaborate with community partners to ensure group transportation and daily program activities are facilitated
  • Oversee the solicitation, collection, and distribution of Holiday Gift Baskets throughout the year
  • Ensure appropriate department staffing levels in order to meet objectives; Assess, evaluate, and hire new employees as needed.
  • Contribute to department budget development, and use sound judgement to leverage resources in accomplishing department goals; Administer budget and comply with SOME financial reporting requirements
  • Provide direction and guidance to staff members on department operations and procedures.
