Grants Coordinator (Grant Writing)

SOME (So Others Might Eat) provides material aid and comfort to our vulnerable neighbors in the District of Columbia, helping them to break the cycle of poverty and homelessness through programs and services that save lives, improve lives, and help to transform the lives of individuals and families, their communities, and the systems and structures that affect them. We meet immediate needs with food, clothing, and healthcare and offer the tools one needs to live with hope, dignity, and greater independence.

Position Description: SOME (So Others Might Eat) is actively recruiting a full-time Grant Coordinator to complement our development team. This role will play a pivotal part in enhancing the Development Team's fundraising capabilities and cultivating relationships with corporate and foundation partners within SOME's portfolio. Key duties encompass donor prospecting, research, proposal formulation, oversight of the grants calendar, timelines, and donor documentation, among other responsibilities as designated.

Required: Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of experience in grants coordination, 2 years' experience in grant writing

Preferred: Bachelor's Degree, 3+ years' experience in grants coordination and grant writing

Schedule: Monday-Friday; 8:00am - 4:30pm (40 hours a week)

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills with attention to detail
  • Strong writing and editing skills; ability to write clearly and persuasively
  • Ability to interpret complex private grant funding requirements
  • Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and manage multiple projects
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Proficient with MS Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook; experience with Smartsheet a plus
  • Ability to engage professionally with external and internal stakeholders
  • Knowledge of fundraising databases

Prospecting & Research

  • Lead prospecting efforts for SOME’s corporate and foundation portfolio, establishing a robust pipeline.
  • Conduct research and prepare profiles on prospective corporate and foundation funders at all gift levels in support of team goals.
  • Assist the VP of Corporate and Foundation Relations in preparing prospect strategies to achieve a positive prospect to funder conversion rate.
  • Support prospect/donor cultivation, engagement, solicitation, and stewardship activities

Grant Writing & Reporting

  • Write a minimum of 3 proposals or other funder deliverables per month.
  • Coordinate proposal development and grant submissions/reporting for assigned funders.
  • Effectively work with department and program staff to gather information for proposals and reports and ensure timely updates to program descriptions.

Coordination

  • Manage a grants calendar with 100+ corporate/foundation relationships to ensure the information is accurate and up to date (all key deliverables, deadlines, relevant links, etc.).
  • Inform development/program staff of donor requirements and secure inputs by deadline.
  • Maintain project management resources and trackers.
  • Manage donor database reporting for grants and support the VP of Corporate and Foundation Relations to ensure complete and accurate donor records.
  • Conduct a monthly reconciliation of submitted proposals, grants awarded, and disbursed gifts.

Physical Demands: Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds. Requires looking at a computer screen for several hours a day. May be required to sit for long periods. Must be able to travel to events and meetings offsite.
