Program Manager (SRO - Shalom House)

SOME (So Others Might Eat) provides material aid and comfort to our vulnerable neighbors in the District of Columbia, helping them to break the cycle of poverty and homelessness through programs and services that save lives, improve lives, and help to transform the lives of individuals and families, their communities, and the systems and structures that affect them. We meet immediate needs with food, clothing, and healthcare and offer the tools one needs to live with hope, dignity, and greater independence.

Position Description: SOME (So Others Might Eat) is currently in search of a full-time Program Manager for our Shalom House location to enhance our Single Adult Housing department. The Program Manager will oversee program operations and introduce a service model that emphasizes strengths and client-centered service approaches. Additionally, responsibilities will include staff supervision and the development of strategies aligning with the program's mission and goals. The Shalom House is located at: 1846 4th Street, NE - Washington, DC 20002.

Required: Bachelor's Degree, 5 + years' experience in Social Services setting; 2-5 years previous supervisory experience.

Preferred: Master's degree in social services; 5-7 yrs. program management and/or non-profit experience; 3-5 yrs. previous supervisory experience, experience working with mental health and substance abuse disorders; Valid driver's license

Required License/Certification: CPR/First Aid; Certification eligible employees must be compliant with DCMR for applicable fields of study.

Schedule: Monday-Friday; 10:00am - 6:30pm (2 days) & 9:00am - 5:30pm (3 days); flexibility with working days and can be chosen by candidate; This position is eligible for 1-2 administrative days per month.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for motivational enhancement theory and understanding of MET interviewing and career counseling
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service and individualized services. This includes understanding resident's needs, meeting quality
  • standards for services, and evaluation of satisfaction
  • Knowledge of clientele behavior and dynamics and sensitivity to diverse backgrounds
  • Knowledge of creative and effective problem-solving skills with ability to draw conclusions, evaluate options and implement solutions
  • Knowledge of mental health issues, trauma substance abuse disorders, program population and homelessness

Supportive Services

  • Oversee all support and case management services
  • Interview and assess residents for support services
  • Provide interventions, as needed

Administrative

  • Oversee the creation of all resident charts
  • Create, modify, duplicate, and distribute materials and documents as needed
  • Order supplies for program staff and maintain adequate inventory of supplies as needed

Supervisory

  • Ensure appropriate department staffing levels in order to meet objectives; Assess, evaluate, and hire new employees as needed.
  • Develop programming based the needs of the community and evaluate programming based on identified milestones of resident utilization, awareness and improvements.
  • Develop resident highlight reports based on the resident risk assessments and monthly program statistics
  • Monitor and develop reports on participation, finances, resident status, and additional information based on funding requirements
  • Interview and assess residents for support services
  • Demonstrate a commitment to improving your teams' professional development by utilizing mentoring and coaching

Reports to: Vice President, Single Adult Housing

Position Designation: This position is designated as Safety Sensitive. You may be subject to drug testing prior to or during your employment with SOME. In this position, you may be disqualified from employment based on the presence of marijuana in test results, even if you possess a medical card authorizing the use of medical marijuana.

Physical Demands: Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds. Must be able to travel to meetings off-site using his or her own transportation methods. day. Must be able to climb stairs and stand for periods of time. Will be required to attend off-site meetings.
